Youth Group

The Youth Group at Southbrook Church is comprised of Middle School and High School students with the focus on helping students understand what it means to live out Jesus’ Great Commission (Matthew 28) and become a disciple for Christ. This means transforming their lives on a personal level through spiritual growth and helping them understand what it means to become a disciple for Christ, for others.

All of our Youth Group Events have a specific biblical purpose:

This school year, everything will be built around the sermon. Instead of teaching three different lessons or topics each week (sermon, Sunday school, and Faith Night), we will center everything around the Sunday morning sermon. The sermon is never the last word. Instead, it is something that should inspire discussion, thought, and debate - that is our goal.

Here is the plan on Sunday:

  • Education Hour (9-10am): Take the sermon topic, passage, main idea and unpack it, discuss it, examine key words, unpack the layers of the message, ask what is the point behind the point, ect.
  • Worship Service/Sermon (10:30-11:30am): Take in the message as presented
  • Faith Night (6:30-8:30pm): Interact with the sermon, engage the concepts, and apply it.

The schedule on Sunday night will look something like this:

  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sunday night of the month: Meet as a large group. We will meet in family homes and the locations will change on a monthly basis (please check THE UPDATE and the activity page on this website for where we are meeting each month)
  • 4th week of the month: Perform a service project which may fall on a day other than Sunday.

Retreat: We are scheduled to go on our annual Winter Retreat at Fort Wilderness near Rhinelander, WI from Feb 19-21, 2010. More information to follow.
