About Southbrook

On the morning of April 12, 1998, Pastor Dick Gorski and several families from Elmbrook held Southbrook Church's first Sunday morning worship service. Southbrook is the seventh daughter church of Elmbrook Church and is part of Elmbrook's commitment to reach out to the entire Milwaukee area with the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the loving fellowship of God's people.

In June 2002, Southbrook Church took its next steps forward in independence - completing its Constitution, incorporation, and installation of its first Council of Elders. While Southbrook has gone through changes over the years, its mission and purpose remain the same.... to worship and serve God, to study and apply God's Word, and to gather and grow together as God's people.

We believe that worshipping God is the most important and exciting thing we do. It is never boring or mundane. Our worship service blends traditional and contemporary music and styles. We also believe it is important for families to worship together.

We are committed to understanding Scripture and applying it to contemporary life. Not only are our sermons based on the Bible, but we provide many opportunities for people to learn about and discuss the Bible throughout the week.

Finally, we are committed to being a place where people can find friendships, support and encouragement. We provide many opportunities for people to meet together, serve together, and grow together.

We welcome you to Southbrook Church. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

We Believe

SCRIPTURE
We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of people, and the Divine, final authority for all Christian faith & life. 2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:20,21; Matthew 5:18

GOD
We believe in one God, creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Deuteronomy6:4; 2Corinthians 13:14; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Matthew 28:19; Revelation 4:ll

THE FATHER
We believe in God the Father, ruler and sovereign over all. 1 Corinthians 8:6; Luke 3:22;
John 6:38, 17:1-5

THE SON
We believe in Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross as the sacrifice for our sins according to the scriptures. Furthermore, He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of the Father, He is now our advocate and high priest. He will return in glory to judge the living and the dead. Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; 1 Corinthians 15; Hebrews 7:25; 1 Peter 2:21-25;
Acts 1:9,10; 1 John 2:l ,2; Matthew 25:31-41; Ephesians 1:20; Hebrews 1:3; John 10:30

THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the Holy Spirit whose ministry it is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to convict, regenerate, seal, indwell, guide, instruct and empower for life and service. Ephesians l:13,14;
John 16:8-13; Romans 8:9; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 5:18; l John 2:20-27

MANKIND
We believe that people were created in the image of God, but chose to sin. All people are therefore, spiritually dead, separated from God, and unable to obtain salvation and eternal life through any efforts of their own. Genesis 1:26-27, 2:17, 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:21,22;
Romans 3: 9-23; Ephesians 2:1-3; Titus 3:5; Isaiah 59:2

SALVATION
We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for forgiveness of sin, eternal life, and reconciliation to God. Those who believe in and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are born of the Holy Spirit and become children of God.
Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:4-7; John 1:12,13; 3:16; 5:24; Romans 5:9-ll; 8:1; 1 John 5:ll-12;
Acts 4:12

ORDINANCES
We believe that water baptism and the Lord's Supper are the two ordinances commanded by our Lord Jesus and are, therefore, to be observed by the church. They are not, however, to be regarded as means of salvation. This church shall practice believers' baptism by immersion. Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 2:38: 8:12; Luke22:19,20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29

THE CHURCH
We believe that the true church is composed of everyone who has been regenerated by the Holy Spirit through saving faith in Jesus Christ, who is its Lord and Head. God has called His church to worship Him, to disciple believers, and to proclaim the Gospel to all the world. The local church shall be composed of members of the true church. Acts 2:41,42; Romans 12:5;
Ephesians 1:22-23,3:21; 2 Timothy 2:2; Matthew 28:18-20

DEATH
We believe that it is appointed for man once to die, and after this, judgment will occur. We also believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and eternal separation from God. Hebrews 9:27; Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:28,29; Revelation 20:11-15; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9;  Revelation 3:5

CHRIST'S RETURN
We believe in the personal and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ and that this has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.Mark 13:32; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; John 14:3; Revelation 1:7; 2 Peter 3:10-14
